I first realized that photography would be my career when I was a military photographer in the U.S. Navy. My subjects were varied and worldwide. I did everything from aerial to underwater photographs. I loved the work, the travel and the variety. I further refined my skills after the Navy working for a nationally recognized portrait photographer in Omaha, Nebraska. I learned much, and moved on to a similar position with a highly successful commercial photographer. I was trying to find my niche.
When the time came to settle down and raise a family, I bought Mignard Studio in Springfield Missouri. I have spent 24 great years there. The studio is known for doing all kinds of photography. I like the variety, and the company and I have a great reputation. I have many clients who have done business with me for over 15 years.
With the advent of digital technology, photography is changing. The tools have changed, but the skill of the photographer has not. In fact, the possibilities for creativity are practically endless, and require more skill than ever before. It is possible to do more assignments on location without the support of the studio. I am able to travel to jobs further than before, do more, and complete the work all at the client’s location in a very timely and cost effective manner.
What goes around, comes around. My future is becoming much like my beginning. The kids are grown, and I have the freedom to take a variety of assignments anywhere. (Cell phones are great!)
I now feel that a name change is appropriate, since my name is Gerry Averett and not Mignard Studio.
I don’t need to work from 8 to 5 at a studio. I am usually on location, but available by phone, giving my clients the best service possible.
